Questions people ask in the moment
What should I do first if a pipe bursts?
Shut off the water. Use the valve on the fixture if there is one, or the main shut-off where the line enters the house. Then stay away from anything electrical near the water and call us. We answer day or night and can walk you through the next steps on the phone.
Is it safe to stay in my home?
Often it is, but not always. Keep away from sagging ceilings, standing water near outlets, and anything involving sewage. If you smell gas or see sparking, leave and call 911 first. When we call you back we’ll ask what you’re seeing and tell you what we’d be careful about.
Should I call my insurance company first?
That’s your call, and many homeowners contact their insurer and a restoration company the same day. Either way, the photos and video you take now are useful, so take them before things get moved.
Can I start cleaning up myself?
Mopping up a small amount of clean water is fine. Don’t use a household vacuum on water, don’t touch sewage, and don’t run the HVAC if sewage, smoke or mold is involved. Leave wet drywall and flooring in place so it can be checked for hidden moisture.
